"Polseres Vermelles" (Eastern Catalan pronunciation: [pulˈseɾəs βərˈmɛʎəs], Western Catalan pronunciation: [polˈseɾez veɾˈmeʎes], Spanish: Pulseras rojas [pulˈseɾas ˈrojɑs]; translated literally as "Red Bracelets," and colloquially known in English as "The Red Band Society")[1] is a Catalan television series crafted by Albert Espinosa. Espinosa and the director-producer Pau Freixas had previously collaborated on the film "Herois" (in Catalan).
The series draws upon Espinosa's own childhood anecdotes, weaving together the narratives of a group of children and adolescents who cross paths as inpatients in a pediatric ward of a hospital.
The inaugural season of this series, which was initially envisioned as a four-season venture, was broadcast on TV3 in 2011. The second season made its debut in January 2013. The Spanish television network Antena 3 showcased the first season, subtitled into Spanish as "Pulseras rojas," during the summer of 2012, followed by the second season in late 2013.
In October 2011, it was disclosed that Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks and Marta Kauffman had entered into an agreement with TV3 to produce an American adaptation of "Polseres Vermelles." Later in November 2013, the Fox Network announced its intention to adapt the series, with Margaret Nagle, known for her work on "Boardwalk Empire," assigned to pen the screenplay. Beyond the American rendition, the series has also been adapted in various other countries, with Italy and Germany being particularly notable examples.
