简介： The 1980 Formula One campaign marked the 34th iteration of the FIA's premier motor racing series. It encompassed both the 1980 World Championship for Drivers and the 1980 International Cup for Constructors, which were concurrently held from January 13th to October 5th across a rigorous fourteen-race calendar. The season further expanded with a non-championship event, the Spanish Grand Prix.

Alan Jones, piloting a Williams-Ford, achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Australian to claim the World Championship title since the legendary Jack Brabham's triumph in 1966. This season witnessed a significant shift in Formula One's landscape, with the Williams team securing their maiden Drivers' and Constructors' championships. It also heralded the arrival of Nelson Piquet as a formidable championship contender and the debut of Alain Prost, a future legend of the sport. Conversely, the defending champions, Jody Scheckter and Ferrari, endured a grim season that culminated in Scheckter's retirement from the sport by year's end. Tragically, French driver Patrick Depailler met his demise during a test session at the Hockenheimring.
