简介： Sydney Bloom is a captivating lines-woman employed by a local telephone corporation. Yet, she leads an existence that is nearly reclusive, surrounded only by her childhood confidant, Duncan, and a select number of personal computers which she occasionally employs to venture into virtual reality realms. One unforeseen incident, in which she inadvertently positioned her telephone atop her modem, reveals an extraordinary ability within Sydney: the capacity to delve into VR.5: Virtual Sensory Reality, an immersive virtual reality platform where her subconscious can engage in dialogue with the subconscious of others. With this realization, Sydney discerns that she has the power to influence the behavior of the person on the other end of the line.

In pursuit of comprehension and guidance for this unexpected gift, Sydney befriends Dr. Frank Morgan, an esteemed professor in the field of Virtual Reality. Despite Dr. Frank Morgan's initial inability to persuade her of the perils associated with VR, he introduces her to a clandestine organization known as the Committee, which extends to her an employment proposition too compelling to reject. It does not take long for both Sydney and Dr. Morgan to apprehend that by joining this shadowy organization, they have stepped into a very precarious situation.
