简介：
The 1997 FIA Formula One World Championship marked the 51st iteration of the esteemed motorsport competition. This season commenced on March 9th and concluded on October 26th, spanning a total of seventeen exhilarating races. The Drivers' Championship was triumphantly claimed by Jacques Villeneuve, while the Constructors' Championship was bestowed upon the formidable team of Williams-Renault.
The 1997 Formula One calendar introduced two new races, the Luxembourg Grand Prix and the Austrian Grand Prix, which made a spectacular return after a decade-long hiatus. The sole race to be eliminated from the calendar was the Portuguese Grand Prix, which had graced the circuit at the Autodromo do Estoril for 12 years.
The championship was mired in controversy as the championship leader, Michael Schumacher, deliberately collided with Villeneuve in an attempt to retain his lead in the final round of the championship at the European Grand Prix held in Jerez, Spain. Schumacher's actions resulted in a halt in the gravel trap, and the FIA deemed him at fault for the accident, subsequently penalizing him by stripping him of his second-place standing in the championship. Despite the contact, Villeneuve valiantly secured third place in the race. Schumacher retained his five race victories, while Villeneuve notched up seven victories but would never win another Formula One Grand Prix before his retirement in 2006. Additionally, 1997 witnessed the retirement of the seasoned Gerhard Berger after years of distinguished service in the sport, as well as the first race wins for the emerging talents, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Mika Häkkinen.
