简介： Upon its television debut in 1998, "Gimme Gimme Gimme" swiftly polarized critics. While many detested it, the show swiftly gained a cult comedy following within the BBC2 post-midnight programming slot. Subsequently, it transitioned to mainstream status on BBC1. Yet, as the first series illustrates, its allure stems from a surreal brand of anarchy. Linda (portrayed by the exceptional Kathy Burke) and Tom (played by James Dreyfus, who later starred alongside Bette Midler in her ill-fated sitcom) inhabit a realm of self-deception. They epitomize the quintessential misfits—a grotesquely vain woman who considers herself "gorgeous," idolizes Liam Gallagher, and a neurotic gay actor who struggles to secure a reputable role but harbors a clandestine infatuation with Simon Shepherd, the suave lead of popular television dramas like "Peak Practice." They exchange politically incorrect barbs with the ease of everyday small talk (Linda: "There's no such thing as gay. It's just laziness."), yet remain utterly dependent on one another. The series is raw, unrefined, frequently audacious, and undoubtedly not for the faint-hearted. Yet, for the most part, it is laugh-out-loud hilarious. And for those who find the self-satisfied cuteness of many American comedy imports stomach-churning, this show will be a breath of fresh air. It's akin to "Will & Grace" on a cocaine-fueled, parallel universe.
