简介：
In the 1999 FIA Formula One World Championship, marking its 53rd edition, the world of motor racing was poised for a thrilling season. This championship commenced on March 7th and concluded on October 31st, spanning a total of sixteen races.
Mika Häkkinen emerged as the champion, securing the Drivers' Championship for the second consecutive year. However, he faced stiff competition from Eddie Irvine, David Coulthard, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, all of whom had their moments of contention for the title. The Constructors' Championship was clinched by Ferrari, setting the stage for the Michael Schumacher era, which would dominate Ferrari's reign from 2000 onwards.
Unfortunately, Schumacher's participation was prematurely ended at the British Grand Prix when he sustained a fractured leg in a crash. Despite this, he returned to race in the final two events of the season to lend support to Irvine in his quest for the championship.
The season's climax was shrouded in controversy as Ferrari's 1-2 finish in Malaysia was reinstated after an appeal against their disqualification for a breach of technical regulations. This move put Irvine in the lead going into the final race. Irvine's championship was virtually assured, as Schumacher would only need to finish fourth in Japan to secure the title. However, despite Schumacher taking the pole position, Häkkinen managed to start ahead and maintain his lead, leaving Schumacher to struggle throughout the race. Even if Ferrari had swapped their cars, Irvine would have still lost the title on countback, given Häkkinen's five victories compared to Irvine's four. Irvine ultimately finished third and fell just short of securing his championship title.
The season was highlighted by the successes of the Jordan and Stewart teams. Heinz-Harald Frentzen achieved a third-place finish in the title race for Jordan, and Johnny Herbert claimed Stewart's first and only Grand Prix victory at the Nürburgring. The season also saw Williams, a former powerhouse, go without a victory for the second consecutive year, despite a strong performance from the emerging talent, Ralf Schumacher. Two-time Champ Car winner Alex Zanardi also struggled, failing to score a single point, and so did Jacques Villeneuve, who finished without points for the newly formed British American Racing team after winning the World Championship just two years prior.
The championship also marked the introduction of the Malaysian Grand Prix, adding a new dimension to the racing calendar.
Ferrari celebrated their ninth Constructors' title, marking the first time since the 1983 season that they had achieved such a milestone.
