Rock Profile, a British television comedy gem crafted by the celebrated comedy duo Matt Lucas and David Walliams, has left an indelible mark on the world of sketch comedy. Rock Profile made its television debut on the channel UK Play in 1999, before migrating to BBC Two in 2000, where it continued to captivate audiences.

The series is a delightful tapestry of spoof interviews, with the affable Jamie Theakston grilling Lucas and Walliams as they don the personas of renowned musicians. These encounters are often surreal, filled with exaggerated caricatures and fictional traits that add a layer of whimsy and wit. They are further enlivened by clips of the featured artists, adorned with humorous captions and well-wishes from other impersonated celebrities.

The first series, broadcast in 1999 across 13 episodes on UK Play, was soon picked up by BBC Two, which aired a second series of 13 episodes in 2000. In the festive spirit of Christmas 2000, a special 45-minute episode titled "Rock the Blind" was broadcast. This episode chronicled the recording of a charity single by Gary Barlow (portrayed by Lucas) and Ronan Keating (portrayed by Walliams), with notable cameos from Ted Robbins as Pete Waterman and Sara Cox as herself. The series then took a hiatus of two years.

In 2002, Rock Profile made a brief comeback with a series of sketches for the relaunch of Top of the Pops, titled "The All-New Top of the Pops." These sketches, filmed backstage, featured characters from the previous two series. While fans were delighted with this surprise return, newcomers to the show struggled to understand the segments. Notably, a sketch in which Lucas impersonated Elton John, interviewing him about his performance on TOTP, sparked controversy. During the sketch, a member of the audience heckled Lucas, leading to the scene being removed from all subsequent repeat screenings.

In 2009, Lucas and Walliams resurrected Rock Profile with a third series. This time, the series was made available for free viewing on the internet, replacing Jamie Theakston with the new host Dermot O'Leary. The first episode, aired on May 11, 2009, featured an interview with Jordan and Peter Andre.

It is widely observed that many of Rock Profile's characters share a striking resemblance to those in Little Britain. Notable parallels include Lou Reed and Andy Warhol to "Lou and Andy," Geri Halliwell to Majorie Dawes, Shirley Bassey to Bubbles DeVere, and Boy George and Marilyn to Vicky Pollard and Sebastian Love.

In 2005, a DVD release of Rock Profile was launched, encapsulating both series, the "Rock the Blind" special, the TOTP sketches, and even a previously unseen commercial and sketches composed for the Ralf Little Show.
