简介： Once upon a time, I harbored a deep-seated aversion to soap operas. The very thought of "Fat Friends" was enough to send my distaste soaring even higher, given that its central narrative revolves around individuals who, quite frankly, are overweight. Yet, to my great relief, this series exceeded my expectations. The content of each episode proved far more engaging than the usual "who's involved with whom" storyline in the average drama. I was even taken aback by the genuine acting prowess showcased on the screen!

So, yes, the characters are overweight. But does it truly matter? As I immersed myself in the show, I never felt coerced into adopting any particular moral viewpoint regarding the "fat issue." Instead, I was effortlessly drawn into the ordinary lives of the central figures, who faced trials and tribulations that are relatable to anyone—divorce, mistrust, insecurity, familial issues of anorexia, teasing, and more.

This credit goes primarily to the exceptional acting and the unadorned, straightforward style of storytelling. There's minimal reliance on excessive makeup, and the use of violin music in dramatic scenes is not overbearing. This refreshing change is a welcome respite from the over-the-top melodramas that dominate television channels these days. While Dutch viewers are often critical of American TV series for being overly emotional, our own domestic dramas often fall even further into excess.

I believe that this "naturalism" in TV and film is an area where the British truly excel. Kudos to them for maintaining such high standards. Keep up the outstanding work, everyone.
