简介： In 2001, the made-for-cable drama "Strange Relations," initially titled "My Beautiful Son," came to life. It features the comedian Paul Reiser in a predominantly serious role as Dr. Jerry Lipman, a 39-year-old Manhattan psychiatrist. Confronted with a diagnosis of leukemia, Lipman embarks on a desperate quest for a close relative, anyone who can provide the critical bone marrow transplant he needs. The revelation from his mother, Esther Lipman, played by Olympia Dukakis, is both disheartening and stunning: it turns out that Jerry was adopted as a baby, and his biological family resides in distant England. Embarking on a journey to Liverpool in search of this vital donor, Jerry reunites with his birth mother, Sheila Fizpatrick, a down-to-earth Liverpudlian portrayed by Julie Walters. The compelling rapport between Reiser and Walters in this film serves as a compelling counterpoint to its less compelling moments and implausible plot twists. Filmed on location in New York City and London, "Strange Relations" made its debut on the Showtime network on March 31, 2002.
