Despite her personal disbelief in religion, Miranda is compelled to respect Steve's Catholic family's wishes for their newborn child to be baptized. Just as Carrie finds herself in a melancholic funk, contemplating the complexities of relationships without having a personal connection of her own, an unexpected invitation arrives from a publisher, inviting her to compile a selection of her newspaper columns into a book. Perennially optimistic Charlotte pulls Carrie to the Fountain of Faith, only to steadfastly declare that faith has not been sufficient for her.
