简介： Barnaby and Detective Sergeant Ben Jones are meticulously probing the mysterious demise of Simon Bright, whose lifeless form was discovered within the confines of an antique Humber from World War II, idling at a deserted airfield. At first glance, the tragedy seems to have been a self-inflicted act, but the pathologist's findings reveal a more sinister twist. Simon had sustained a devastating blow to the head, suggesting he may have been rendered unconscious before succumbing to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Simon Bright's girlfriend, Laura Sharp, has vanished without a trace, yet the demise of this aging village Casanova, coupled with the attempted murder of one of her close companions, significantly reduces the pool of potential suspects. Barnaby is steadfast in his belief that one of Laura's former flames is to blame, but given her vibrant and often tumultuous romantic history, the daunting task ahead is to discern which of her numerous ex-lovers could be the malevolent figure lurking in the shadows.
