Continuing their journey as residents at Seattle Grace Hospital, Meredith, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, and Alex Karev now have their own interns to mentor, including Meredith's half-sister, Lexie Grey. Lexie has become a confidante and roommate to George O'Malley, who, after a divorce from Callie, a breakup with Izzie, and narrowly failing his residency test by just one point, is striving to restore order to both his professional and personal life.
